Symptoms
Calcium deficiency causes the banana leaves to become chlorotic and later light brown necrosis appears from the top of the leaves.
Symptoms start on younger leaves, but growth is not restricted. The lower part of the leaves shows deformations in its shape; the margins are torn and parts of the leaves tend to curl inwards.
Reasons
Calcium deficiency
Boron deficiency shows similar symptoms, but the chlorosis and necrosis starts from the margin and not from the top of the leaves. Furthermore, the leaves are not torn.
Banana - Deformation
Symptoms
Symptoms of Ca deficiency start on younger leaves, but growth is not restricted. The leaves become chlorotic and later light brown necrosis appears, starting from leaf tip. Ca deficiency creates "spike leaf" appearance where the lamina of young leaves is deformed or absent.
Reasons
Calcium deficiency
Banana - Rot
Symptoms
Fruit damage, caused by splitted peel and rotten fruit flesh.
Reasons
Calcium deficiency
With Ca deficiency, peels split when fruit ripens.
Fruits can also curl, damaging or scratching others in the bunch.
Fruit weight and diameter are reduced.
Banana - Cracking

Banana - Deformation
Symptoms
Symptoms start on younger leaves, which fail to expand properly. Ca deficiency creates "spike leaf" appearance where the lamina of young leaves is deformed or absent.

Calcium deficiency made worse by
Acidic soils
Sandy or light soils (leaching)
Acid peat soils
Soils rich in sodium
Soils rich in aluminium
Drought conditions
Fruit high in nitrogen or potassium
Large fruit

Growth of roots and leaves, resulting in higher yields
